Handbags for a Cause

In April, V-Day celebrated its 10th Anniversary with the V to the Tenth SuperLove Event at the Superdome in New Orleans. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend, so I was visiting the V-Day website for the latest news. For those of you who are unfamiliar with V-Day, it is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sexual slavery. V-Day is a platform that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.

While browsing the V-Day Store, I discovered beautiful, handcrafted bags (using local Congolese fabric) made by women who are survivors of sexual violence in Bukavu and Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. They suffer stigma and discrimination, resulting in limited economic opportunities. The proceeds from the sale of these bags will help these women get back on their feet and support themselves and their children. Choose between a shoulder bag or wrap-style bag. For just $20.00, you can make a difference! 100% of the net proceeds go directly to V-Day to end violence against women and girls.
