In honor of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, 10% of all sales purchased on www.louisvuitton.com on April 22nd, 2010 will be donated to Global Green USA. The donation to Global Green will support their Green Schools Initiative, focused on greening K-12 schools in several major United States cities including New Orleans and Los Angeles.

Global Green USA is working to create healthy green schools in Los Angeles, New Orleans, and cities throughout the country with its national Green Schools Initiative. Today most cash-strapped schools spend more money on electricity than on books and computers. For the past five years, Global Green has worked with the Los Angeles Unified School District to insure that the largest new school construction project in the country is built to healthy, green standards. When Global Green expanded its effort in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, schools became a critical component of the rebuilding efforts there. As a direct result of Global Green’s Green Schools Initiative, tens of thousands of students from overcrowded and rundown schools across the U.S. now attend classes in healthy classrooms in state-of-the-art green schools.

In addition to partnering with Global Green, Louis Vuitton will share messages from key influencers like Zoe Saldana, Pharrell Williams, Rachel Zoe, Nina Garcia and Andre Leon Talley, detailing their own personal steps to protect the environment. Follow Louis Vuitton on Twitter for more updates on raising environmental awareness and promote accountability

While reading different articles on the site, I discovered ONE’s official store with everything from t-shirts to water bottles, pashminas and other accessories. What caught my eye most was the FEED 1 bag, a reversible burlap and 100% organic cotton bag that was created to help raise awareness and funds for child hunger. The ONE FEED 1 Bag is $65.00 and currently on back order which is a good sign! (Allow 2-4 weeks for delivery.)

When you purchase a FEED 1 bag, you will guarantee that one child is fed in school for one full year through the United Nations World Food Program. The goal of FEED Projects is to market and sell as many FEED bags as possible and to FEED and educate the world’s 400 million hungry children. (Visit feedprojects.com to learn more, get involved and to shop for other FEED products.)

She finds an encouraging word to name the style and then searches for a need (cause) that fulfills that style.Kathy connects a charity organization to the symbolic meaning each purse design represents, and donates 10% of the profit.

Significant Journey bags are made of high quality Ultrasuede® and microsuede polyester or durable canvas with intricate embroidery and some with appliqué. The design process starts with Kathy’s pencil sketch. The sketch is scanned into the computer and re-drawn on the computer. Kathy creates an illustration with all detail and color scheme finalized. The artwork is then taken into an embroidery software program and is digitized for embroidery stitches. Every type of stitch is chosen with precise artistic style to achieve the right look that matches the illustration. The time and meticulous attention to detail is evident as you look through the Significant Journey collection.

The special names given for each design all have a positive message for the charities they represent. The Bee Yourself tote (pictured on left), with bumble bees swarming around polka dots gives a message about bumblebees not being aerodynamically designed to fly, but fly anyway, with 10% of proceeds going to organizations that help women build their confidence. Teach (pictured at the top), features a labyrinth, which is a metaphor for the journey to the center of ones deepest self and back out into the world with a better understanding of themselves, with 10% of profits going to Autism research.

Significant Journey purses are available exclusively online at www.significantjourney.com or call 727-488-4624. They are made to order and take 3-4 weeks. The first 100 bags of each design are signed and numbered by designer Kathy Lengyel.
I learned of Nomi Network through a good friend, and knew I had to find out more about an organization with such a profound cause. Based in New York City, Nomi Network is a non-profit, anti sex-trafficking organization that aims to eradicate sexual slavery by leveraging the fashion creation/fashion consumer marketplace. Nomi partners with local artisans in Cambodia to create chic and sensible products that appeal to the global marketplace. Nomi Network’s unique business model aims to leverage the fashion industry by affecting product supply chains in order to fight sex-trafficking through sustainable economic empowerment.

On September 15, Nomi Network launched its first product, a line of colorful eco-friendly totes. Purchased products generate awareness and support job and career training for survivors of sexual trafficking in South East Asia. It also gives supporters and globally-conscious fashionistas an opportunity to put an end to sexual slavery by sharing this powerful message with the world. The creation of these totes provide stable and well-paying job and career advancement opportunities for stigmatized ex-slaves and women at-risk, helping to end a destructive cycle of poverty.

The production of Nomi’s signature slogan totes are produced with assistance from the social enterprise Hagar On Time (HOT) in Cambodia. HOT has been dedicated to employing victims of sex trafficking since the late 90’s. Through the order of Nomi’s first product line, 750 hours of fair-wage labor was secured for survivors who have been restored and trained through HOT’s sister non-governmental organization, Hagar International.

The tote comes in two styles, an over the shoulder bag that transforms into a single strap tote, and a basic two strap over the shoulder bag that is reversible. Each design is produced in three colors, primarily made from eco-friendly recycled rice bag material. Visit NomiNetwork.org to learn more about getting involved and to purchase a tote that will help put an end to sexual slavery by sharing this powerful message with the world.

Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini has designed an exclusive accessories collection dedicated to the Gucci Campaign to Benefit UNICEF since 2005. Each year, Gucci has intensified their commitment to UNICEF, and to saving and improving children’s lives by expanding the annual campaign and introducing new initiatives. For the 2009 campaign, Giannini commissioned acclaimed Fashion Director, author and illustrator Michael Roberts to create a new children’s book entitled Snowman in Africa. The book will be sold exclusively in Gucci stores and on Gucci.com from November 16 – December 31, 2009. Gucci will donate 100% of the $25 retail price of the book to UNICEF.

Taking inspiration from Michael Roberts’ illustrations, Giannini has also designed exclusive Gucci accessories including handbags, charms and small leather goods, as well as a Gucci Gift Card to benefit UNICEF, ranging in value from $50 – $5,000. Gucci will donate 25% of the retail price of the dedicated accessories collection and special edition Gift Cards to UNICEF.
