I was born and raised in Chevy Chase, Maryland. My mother, who I affectionately call “Joanie”, taught me at a young age the importance of accessorizing, and putting on lipstick before leaving the house. I have her to thank for my love of vintage designer clothing and accessories. I fondly remember sneaking into her closet to model her Gucci, Fendi and Louis Vuitton bags around the house when she wasn’t home. When I was in high school, I would drag Joanie to consignment stores in Bethesda and Tenleytown because I knew she would treat if the price was right. I have expensive taste (also thanks to Joanie) but love a good bargain, so I prefer the challenge of hunting for fabulous finds over paying retail.
There’s no denying my love of handbags. It’s one of the few accessories you don’t have to try on to buy and I can usually justify why it’s a good idea to get it. Eventually, I channeled my handbag obsession into a business. Nine years ago, I started Handbag Report as an online store (with a modest investment from Joanie), and later, added the blog to report my fab finds and connect with others who love handbags as much as I do. I have written over 1,500 articles on fashion, trends, designers and accessories. I studied Apparel Manufacturing Management at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, so I can appreciate a thoughtfully designed, well constructed handbag and the attention to detail. My dream job is to travel around the world forecasting new trends, and to design my own collection of handbags.
