I first discovered my infatuation with handbags while playing in my mom’s closet as a young girl. Over the years, that cute infatuation has developed into a full blown handbag obsession! With a degree in apparel manufacturing management from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), I appreciate the design details and construction of a handbag. As an accessories buyer and trend correspondent, I am constantly researching the latest handbag trends, new designers and labels, and what celebs are wearing. It only made sense to start HandbagReport.com to connect with others around the globe who love handbags as much as I do!

Hermane JohnsonMy love for handbags began as a child wanting to be as fashionable as all the women in my family. My grandmother’s handbags always seemed to intrigue me and create the need to play dress up as they were always accompanied by a fabulous hat. Also having a mother who modeled professionally as a young girl in the 1960′s, both my older sister and I excelled in “Handbag 101″. Handbags were to be chosen for their quality and craftsmanship first and foremost. Then it was their function and utility. Color or design is the hardest choice but make certain to have your basic black, brown, etc. Finally, price should exemplify your “handbag 101″ knowledge and how savvy you are at finding bargains! As if that foundation weren’t enough, I was always taught that a lady never simply puts on an outfit without her accessories. In my opinion the best accessory is always your handbag!

angela-hunterWhen I think about how my love for purses came about…It actually didn’t start with a purse, it started with color. I’ve always had an eye for brilliant, lush, pure color. It inspires me! In high school, I didn’t carry a purse per se- I lugged around a backpack. I’ve always been one to haul around everything but the kitchen sink, so backpacks were the only thing that accommodated my load. Years ago purses weren’t large enough for everything. They were small, dainty, and fragile. One day when I grew out of leggings and pony tails and wanted to look more chic and the backpack look didn’t go with my grown-up ensemble; I began looking for color. I found it in a velvet vintage clutch. The texture was enhanced, the color was a warm berry, and the compliments I received made me fall in love with the style I created. It matched the colors that I loved at the time and ever since, I’ve picked a purse, then picked my wardrobe around its colors. Even if the shade was black- there are many canvases of black..shiny, textured, muted, soft gray. Get it? The color of a new purse…makes me smile. Still.
